Trads

Client: Trads, Glasgow, Scotland

Production Type: Promotional

Deliverables: 4x 2-minute videos

Project Overview: Trads, a Scottish sunglasses brand, commissioned Reverie Films to create four promotional films across two campaigns. The project included a summer collection campaign filmed in Madrid, a behind-the-scenes film, a location-led lifestyle piece and a narrative brand film shot between Glasgow and Valencia. Across the series, the aim was to capture the brand’s stylish, expressive and colourful personality.

The Brief

Trads wanted to create video content that would do more than simply show a product.

As a sunglasses brand, the visuals needed to feel stylish and aspirational, but the films also had to communicate personality. The brand had a strong visual identity, and the videos needed to reflect that through colour, movement, location, styling and tone.

The project was built around two main campaign ideas. The first focused on Trads’ summer collection, using Madrid as a bright, energetic backdrop for a set of lifestyle-led videos. The second was a more narrative brand film, using contrast between Glasgow and Valencia to tell a story of escape, transformation and self-expression.

Across the full project, the brief was to create four short films that could be used across the brand’s website, social media and wider digital marketing. Each video needed to stand on its own, while still feeling part of the same creative world.

The Challenge

The main challenge was creating a consistent brand identity across different campaigns, locations and styles of video.

The summer campaign needed to feel spontaneous, warm and full of energy. It was about movement, colour, confidence and the feeling of being out in the city. The brand film had a different job. It needed to feel more cinematic and story-led, moving between a muted Glasgow setting and the bright, dreamlike warmth of Valencia.

There were also practical challenges. Filming across Madrid, Glasgow and Valencia required careful planning, clear logistics and the ability to adapt quickly on location. Each setting had its own pace, light, restrictions and opportunities, so the production needed to stay organised without losing the natural energy of the films.

The biggest creative challenge was balance. The sunglasses had to remain central, but the videos could not feel like simple product adverts. They needed to feel like part of a lifestyle: something fashionable, expressive and emotionally connected to the person wearing them.

Our Approach

We approached the project by treating each film as part of a wider brand world.

The goal was not to create four identical videos. It was to create a set of films that felt connected through tone, colour, pacing and visual style, while allowing each piece to have its own purpose.

For the summer collection films, the approach was loose, energetic and observational. We wanted to capture models moving through Madrid, interacting with the city and bringing the sunglasses into real, sunlit environments. The films needed to feel confident and stylish, but not overly staged.

For the brand story, the approach was more cinematic and controlled. The film relied on contrast: grey skies and quiet interiors in Glasgow against warmth, colour and possibility in Valencia. The sunglasses became part of the story, acting almost like a portal into a brighter, more expressive world.

Across the project, we focused on making the brand feel premium without losing its sense of fun, freedom and personality.

Campaign One: The Summer Collection

The first campaign was filmed in Madrid and centred around Trads’ summer collection.

Madrid gave the campaign a natural sense of warmth, colour and movement. The city streets, rooftops, gardens and open spaces helped create a visual world that felt bright, social and full of life. Rather than building the campaign around heavy scripting, we focused on natural movement, confident styling and spontaneous moments that matched the feeling of the brand.

The campaign included a polished summer collection film, a fast-paced lifestyle piece and behind-the-scenes content that gave audiences a closer look at the shoot itself.

This gave Trads more than one type of video asset. The main campaign film helped present the collection in a stylish, finished way. The additional pieces gave the brand more flexibility, offering content that could feel more immediate, personal and social-media-friendly.

Filming in Madrid

The Madrid shoot was built around energy and atmosphere.

We worked with models across a variety of locations, using the city as part of the visual identity of the campaign. The aim was to make the sunglasses feel connected to travel, summer, confidence and ease.

Filming in a busy city required flexibility. Light, movement, crowds and changing conditions all shaped the shoot, so the production had to stay responsive. We planned the key visual moments in advance, but also left room for natural interactions and unexpected details that made the footage feel more alive.

The style of filming was designed to feel polished but not rigid. We used a mixture of composed fashion imagery, handheld movement, close product moments and wider lifestyle shots to create a campaign that felt cinematic, warm and expressive.

Campaign Two: Find Your Sunshine

The second campaign took a more narrative approach.

The film followed a woman in Glasgow, surrounded by grey skies and everyday routine, before a pair of Trads sunglasses transports her into the colour and warmth of Valencia. The idea was simple but effective: the sunglasses did not just change what she wore, they changed how the world felt.

This gave the brand a more emotional story to tell. The film was not only about the product itself, but about escape, confidence and transformation. It allowed Trads to communicate a mood, not just a look.

The contrast between Glasgow and Valencia became the heart of the film. One world was muted, still and restrained. The other was bright, warm and full of possibility. The visual shift helped make the brand story feel immediate and memorable.

Filming Between Glasgow and Valencia

Filming across two countries meant the production had to be carefully planned.

In Glasgow, the scenes needed to feel grounded and recognisable. The setting had to communicate routine and isolation without feeling too heavy. We used cooler tones, controlled framing and a quieter pace to establish the starting point of the story.

In Valencia, the visual language changed. The film opened up through warmer light, brighter colour, movement and a stronger sense of freedom. The locations were chosen to feel aspirational and cinematic, while still allowing the model and product to remain central.

The transition between the two worlds was one of the most important creative details. It needed to feel magical, but still believable within the style of the film. Through careful framing, editing and colour grading, we shaped the shift from Glasgow to Valencia as the emotional turning point of the piece.

Post-Production and Delivery

Post-production played a major role in bringing the project together.

For the summer collection films, the edit focused on pace, rhythm and energy. The footage needed to feel stylish and effortless, moving between models, locations, product details and wider lifestyle moments without losing momentum.

For the behind-the-scenes video, the edit had a looser and more immediate feel. The aim was to show the creative process behind the campaign and give the audience a sense of the people, movement and atmosphere around the shoot.

For the brand film, the edit was more story-led. The pacing needed to guide the viewer from one world to another, building the contrast between Glasgow and Valencia while keeping the narrative clear and emotionally engaging.

Colour grading was especially important across the project. The Madrid films needed to feel warm, sunlit and vibrant. The brand film needed a more deliberate shift, with the Glasgow scenes feeling cooler and more subdued before opening into the golden colour and warmth of Valencia.

The final videos were prepared as a flexible set of marketing assets that Trads could use across its digital platforms.

The Finished Films

The final project gave Trads four distinct videos with a shared visual identity.

The summer collection films captured the brand’s confident, stylish and travel-led personality. They gave Trads a set of bright, energetic campaign assets that could showcase the sunglasses in real lifestyle settings.

The behind-the-scenes film added another layer to the campaign, giving the brand more informal content that showed the creative process behind the shoot.

The brand film gave Trads a more cinematic piece of storytelling. By using contrast, location and transformation, it helped communicate the feeling behind the brand in a way that went beyond a simple fashion advert.

Together, the four films gave Trads a strong visual campaign built around style, place, colour and story.

What This Project Shows

This project shows how fashion and lifestyle video can do more than showcase a product.

For a brand like Trads, the sunglasses are central, but the story around them matters just as much. The videos needed to communicate how the product feels, where it belongs and what kind of identity it helps create.

A strong fashion video campaign is not only about attractive visuals. It is about building a world around the brand. Location, styling, casting, pacing, colour and music all shape how the audience understands the product.

With Trads, the challenge was to create a set of videos that felt stylish, expressive and connected while serving different campaign needs. By combining international locations, cinematic visuals and story-led production, we created a collection of films that reflected the brand’s personality and gave Trads a flexible set of video assets for digital use.
